I have three computers on my home network sharing files, etc. I have loaded Windows Vista on an old computer that used to have Windows XP. Before I installed Windows Vista I made shure that the hardware and connections were working correctly.
I connected to the network with the computer I name RESEARCH. I am able to access the internet and download files, read my Hotmail, etc. I can not see the other computers on the network. I have created a folder and shared with the Public to be able to Write. From my ohter computer I can see the RESEARCH computer, but I have NO ACCESS to the files or Properties of the share.
I have noticed that many others in this newgroup appeared to have the same problem. If anybody can figure this out, please share it us. Of course, it could be that at this time the development team has not included those modules in Vista.

Home Network
Ok, I have managed to fix things so that I can see my other PC's on the RESEARCH computer. However, when I try to Explore another computer on the network I receive the following message:
Verify you Firewall Settings The setting for a rule must be changed if you want to allow this traffic.
Policy Owner: Windows Firewall Filter Name: Port Scanning Prevention Filter Filter ID: 72046
Now all I need is to figure out how and what to change. Anybody out there knows what this means?

I have 3 pc's here. 2 are on Windows 2000 and this one on Vista. I have been through the wizards to setup a network. It's private, discovery and sharing is enabled. I have setup the shares, I have asked Vista to detect computers on the network. From a 2000 machine, I cannot log into the Vista machine nor see it in Network Places. From Vista, the 2000 machines are not detected. All are connected to a Belkin router via Ethernet. I do not understand what is going on. I have done everything from all machines to have them find each other and only the 2000 machines can find each other. Now, I don't have a phD in networking and have setup this network previously without problem with Linux and XP. Is there a way to shut down all this security as the other two machines are trusted? I thought I did without needing passwords and passphrases, taking down then WAN from Windows and letting the router handle that. This really is unacceptable not having home network or making it a nightmare to setup. I am not a beginner or even a novice and this sucks.
I have this working. Just ran the wizard for a 3rd time and it all took. Comp must have Alzheimer's. "Bob T." wrote in message
